Week 1 Unit 2
This week, we learned about particles in motion and the different properties that are involved with this. On Monday, we learned about particle diffusion. We learned that diffusion is particles spreading evenly to fill a container. Also this process happens by itself and also the spreading is caused by particle collision. For the experiment that we did to show this, you sprayed a little bit of febreeze in the air that eventually spread to the room. I can relate this to when I spray cologne on me in my room and then leave for five minutes to eat breakfast. Then I walk in later and my room smells like the cologne I sprayed. On Tuesday, we learned about how temperature has an affect on particle motion along with expansion. Also we learned about other properties of particle motion. We did an experiment about temperature with the two different liquids. (Water and alcohol)  We said that they don't move at the same speed. Along with this, we raised the temperature for both of the liquids and the water and alcohol in the tube rose. We noticed from this experiment that the alcohol rose faster than the water. This explained the reason that temperature has a direct correlation with particle motion and that some liquids do not have the particle speed. I can relate to this when I once was cooking something on the pan and I used cooking oil in the pan. Also at the same time, my mom was boiling water in the pot to cook corn on the cob. The cooking oil in the pan was taking longer to boil than the water was in the pot because at this temperature, the water particles move quicker than the cooking oil particles were. Also we did a web quest to help this learning. During the Web quest we learned that particles when they collide do not lose energy when they hit each other, they are in a constant random motion and also that temperature can affect particle speed. I can relate this to my favorite red balloon in my room. When I blew up the balloon, the particles in the balloon were constantly moving because if they weren't moving, the balloon would not blow up. Also, the particles didn't lose energy when they collided against the end of the balloon or else if they did, they would've not functioned and would have popped. However, one day, the temperature in my room was very hot, I noticed that the balloon was growing in size because the heat of the room was making particles move faster. I was so fascinated and accidentally stepped on the balloon and popped it. It was a very sad day.   On Wednesday, we learned about what is gas pressure. We learned that gas pressure is c   To help learn this concept, we did the trash bag experiment. The picture above depicts that we blew the trash bag . I can relate gas pressure to when I pump air into my tire, the air particles that go into the tire collide off the wall of the tire to expand the tire so it ca hold more air. Then on Friday, we talked about what air pressure is. Air pressure is force exerted onto a surface. To show this, we did the Capri Sun Juice box experiment. It showed that when we sucked the air pressure out of the straw, that the air pressure at the top of the juice box pushed the juice down to fill the gap in the straw. I can relate to this when I drank out of a swirly straw, I have to be more of a vacuum to suck the air pressure in the swirly straw so I can enjoy the chocolate milkshake.


I learned a lot from this unit with all of the hands on activities that we did. I learned about particle motion and all of the different properties that are a part of it. My favorite activity that we did was the garbage bag because it was very interesting and also I understood it very easily. I had no questions from the content that we learned and also it was  avery good week.
